A native Texan, William Wayne Justice has given his life to the law as a practicing attorney, a public prosecutor, and a trial judge. He follows with courage the U.S. Constitution he swore to uphold. His decisions opened schools' doors and doctors' offices to immigrants, children, and those who could not speak English. Judge Justice's enforcement of the law rescued residents trapped in segregated public housing. For more than 25 years, he has steadfastly applied constitutional standards to eliminate barbarous living conditions in the Texas prison system while maintaining compliance with the law. For his embodiment of the value of Equal Justice Under Law, Southern Methodist University is honored to confer upon Judge William Wayne Justice the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
